Chat on your website
WhatsApp-style chat on your website, without WhatsApp
You like replying to your customers from your phone, fast, just like on WhatsApp. But on your website, a WhatsApp button sends your visitors away, and not all of them want to give you their phone number. Live chat keeps the same simplicity, without those two hurdles.
What a WhatsApp button does
A WhatsApp button on a website is a link that opens the visitor’s WhatsApp app, on a conversation with your number. It’s simple and free, and for many small businesses, it’s the first thing they try. But it has three limits:
- Your visitor leaves your website. They switch to WhatsApp in the middle of their visit, and rarely come back to the page they were looking at.
- They need WhatsApp, and have to give you their number. On a computer, or for a simple question, many give up.
- Everything gets mixed up. Customers land in the same app as your family and friends, on your personal number, with no way to tell which website or page they came from.
What live chat does
With a live chat like Hooky, a bubble appears at the bottom of your website. Your visitor writes in it, with no app to install, no account and no phone number. You get a notification on your phone, and you reply from the Hooky app, as fast as on WhatsApp.
- Your visitor stays on your page, and you see which one they were looking at when they wrote to you.
- Your customers stay separate, in a dedicated app, website by website, without your personal number.
- If they leave, your reply follows them: if they left their email, it reaches them by email, with a link to pick up the conversation.
- Everyone writes in their own language: their messages arrive translated into yours, and your replies into theirs.
- You can also reply from your watch, your computer or your tablet, and as a team if you have one.

When to keep WhatsApp
If your customers already talk to you on WhatsApp, to confirm an appointment or follow an order, keep it for that: that’s where they know you. Your website’s chat is for something else: answering visitors who don’t know you yet, at the moment they have a question. The two live together just fine.
