Why Hooky on a Squarespace site

Portfolio, studio, shop, restaurant: a Squarespace site is often a freelancer’s shop window. A chat bubble turns a visit into a conversation, at the very moment the person has a question. Hooky fits it in one line, and you reply from your phone.

Before you start

Code Injection isn’t available on every Squarespace plan: you need the Core plan or higher (Business or Commerce on legacy plans). It doesn’t exist on the entry-level plan (Basic or Personal).

Install Hooky in Squarespace

Create your Hooky account (free for one site), add your site with its addresses (my-site.squarespace.com and your domain), and copy the <script> tag from Sites.
Open Code Injection: in the Pages panel, Custom Code › Code Injection. On older versions of the interface, it’s under Settings › Advanced › Code Injection.
Paste the tag into the Footer field, then click Save.

The tag to paste (yours contains your site’s real key):

The Footer field adds the tag to every page of the site, right before </body>: the bubble is everywhere.

Check that the bubble shows up

Open your site in a private window, outside the editor, and reload: the bubble is at the bottom of the screen. Send yourself a message: it lands in Messages, and as a notification on your phone.

No bubble? Check that the tag is in the Footer field (not in a single page’s header), and that the address you opened is in the site’s allowed addresses in Hooky.

squarespace.com and your domain

Your site answers on its squarespace.com address and on your domain. Add both to the site in Hooky: everything lands in the same inbox, with the same stats.

Reply to your visitors

You reply from the Hooky app (iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android, Apple Watch) or the web dashboard. Your visitor doesn’t create an account, can attach a photo or a PDF, and if they leave after giving their email, your reply reaches them by email. Their messages arrive translated into your language.

Frequently asked questions

I can’t find Code Injection

It depends on your plan: on Basic or Personal, it doesn’t exist. On plans that include it, search for “code injection” in the admin panel’s search.

Does it work with my Squarespace template?

Yes, with every template: the bubble is isolated from the site’s styles (Shadow DOM), so your template doesn’t distort it. You pick its color and its side in Hooky.

How much does it cost?

Nothing for one site. Beyond that, the price depends on the number of sites. The app is free.
