Replit integration
Add live chat to your Replit app
Replit Agent builds your app, Replit publishes it on a replit.app address. To let your visitors talk to you, give the Hooky prompt to the Agent, publish again, and reply from your phone.
Why add chat to a Replit app
A Replit app is often a real product: a booking tool, an internal tool, a small SaaS. Your first users will get stuck somewhere, and you want to know right away, not in an email three days later. The Hooky bubble lets them write to you from the app, with no account to create, and you reply wherever you are.
Install Hooky with Replit Agent
Create your Hooky account (free for one site) and add your app with its published address, for example
my-app.replit.app.Copy the prompt from Sites: your site’s key is already in it. Here is the Replit version.
Paste it into Replit Agent’s prompt box, then check in Preview that the app still works.
Publish again: Publish at the top right of the editor. The published version doesn’t change until you publish again: that’s by design, so you can keep working without breaking the live app.
The prompt for Replit Agent
Add the Hooky chat bubble to this app, on every page. Paste this tag once, right before </body>, in the HTML template shared by every page sent to the browser (client/index.html or index.html for React with Vite, app/layout.tsx with the Script component from next/script for Next.js, the base template for Flask or Django):
<script src="https://heyhooky.com/widget.js" data-site-key="SITE_PUBLIC_KEY" async></script>
Don’t change the script URL or the data-site-key attribute. Don’t add any other code, server side or client side: the bubble shows up on its own, at the bottom of the screen.
Preview, replit.app and your domain
Replit has two addresses: the development preview on replit.dev, which is temporary (Replit warns it can change), and the published app on replit.app or your own domain. Declare the published address and your domain in Hooky. To see the bubble in Preview too, the simplest is not to have declared any address yet: the bubble then works everywhere.
If your app is restricted (password, workspace only, invitations), only people with access see the bubble: that’s expected.
Check that the bubble shows up
Open the published address, not just Preview: that’s what your visitors see. The bubble is at the bottom of the screen. Send a message: it lands in Messages and on your phone. Nothing? Publish again, check the allowed addresses, then reload without the cache.
Reply, and keep an eye on your app
You reply from the Hooky app (iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android) or the web dashboard. Your user can attach a screenshot or a PDF: handy for a bug. If they leave before you reply but left their email, your reply reaches them by email.
Your Replit app has a server: use it. Ask the Agent to send your events (signup, purchase) to Hooky’s API with the site’s secret key, stored in Replit’s secrets, and to post a notification to the site’s channel on every order. See the docs.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a paid Replit plan?
Not for Hooky. You only need a published app; according to Replit, publishing is available on every plan, with limits on the free plan (one published app, which expires after 30 days). Check Replit’s current terms.
The Agent added server code for Hooky
The bubble doesn’t need it: ask the Agent to remove that code and keep only the tag in the HTML template.
Where do I keep the site’s secret key?
In Replit’s secrets (an environment variable such as HOOKY_SECRET_KEY), never in code sent to the browser. The public key in the tag, on the other hand, can be seen by anyone: that’s normal.
My Replit app is a mobile app
The Hooky bubble is made for web pages: it works in a web app opened in the browser, not in a native app.
