Bolt integration

Add live chat to your Bolt site

You built your site with Bolt and it’s live on bolt.host or your own domain. Hooky adds a chat bubble with one prompt: your visitors write in, you reply from your phone.

Why add chat to a Bolt site

Bolt is often how you launch fast: a landing page, a small shop, a tool for your clients. That’s exactly when the first questions come in, and when you want to hear them. A chat bubble is the shortest path between a hesitant visitor and you.

Bolt projects are real code (often React with Vite, sometimes Next.js or Astro). Hooky only adds one <script> tag, in the template shared by every page: no dependency, no component to maintain.

Install Hooky in Bolt

  1. Create your Hooky account (free for one site) and add your site with its address, for example my-site.bolt.host.

  2. Copy the prompt from Sites: it already carries your site’s key. Here is the Bolt version, with a sample key.

  3. Paste it into your Bolt project’s chat and let Bolt edit the code. Check the preview: nothing else should have moved.

  4. Publish: the Publish button at the top right, then Publish (or Update if the site is already live) in the menu that opens. Bolt recommends these buttons over a “publish my site” prompt, which uses tokens.

The prompt for Bolt

Add the Hooky chat bubble to this site, on every page. Paste this tag once, right before </body>, in the HTML template shared by every page (index.html for a Vite project, app/layout.tsx with the Script component from next/script and strategy="afterInteractive" for Next.js, the main layout for Astro):

<script src="https://heyhooky.com/widget.js" data-site-key="SITE_PUBLIC_KEY" async></script>

Don’t change the script URL or the data-site-key attribute. Don’t add any other code and don’t change anything else: the bubble shows up on its own, at the bottom of the screen.

Check that the bubble shows up

After publishing, Bolt posts your site’s link in the chat: open it in a new tab. The bubble is at the bottom of the screen. Send a test message: it lands in Messages, and in the app if you’ve installed it.

No bubble? Check that you published again, that the address you opened is in the site’s allowed addresses in Hooky (if you declared any), then reload without the cache.

bolt.host and your own domain

Bolt publishes for free on a bolt.host address; on a paid Bolt plan you can connect your own domain. Add both addresses to the site in Hooky: one inbox, the same stats, the same bubble. And if you publish a private site (paid Bolt plans), only invited visitors will see the bubble, like the rest of the site.

Reply to your visitors

You reply from the Hooky app (iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android) or the web dashboard, with a notification for every new message. Your visitors don’t create an account; they can attach a photo or a PDF, and leave their email to get your reply if they leave first.

Want to know if your launch is working? Ask Bolt to call Hooky.track("signup") after each signup: the numbers show up in the Stats tab. Details in the docs.

Frequently asked questions

My Bolt project has no index.html file

That’s the case for a Next.js or Astro project. The prompt covers it: Bolt puts the tag in the shared layout. For Next.js it uses the Script component, as described in the docs.

What if my Bolt site is published on Netlify?

Nothing changes for Hooky: the tag is in your code and ships with every deploy. Just add the Netlify address to the site’s addresses.

Will the bubble clash with my site’s design?

No: it lives in a Shadow DOM, isolated from your styles. You pick its color, its side (right or left) and its welcome message in Hooky, with a live preview, without touching the code.

Can I open it from a “Contact us” button?

Yes. Ask Bolt: “The Contact us button opens the Hooky bubble with Hooky.open().” It’s explained in the docs.
